The Pressoir is a wine bar, wine shop and restaurant tucked into Heritage Courtyard, a quiet cobbled corner off Sadler Street, a few steps from Wells Cathedral and the Market Place. It's the kind of place regulars call a hidden gem: festooned with greenery, easy to settle into, and just as happy to pour you a glass on your own as to seat a long table of friends.
A relaxed wine bar in the heart of Wells
The Pressoir is run by wine enthusiast David Schroetter, who grew up surrounded by the vineyards of the Loire Valley. That French, unhurried feeling runs through the whole room, part bistro, part wine shop, where you can drop in for a glass and a plate of charcuterie, or stay the afternoon. If you're looking for somewhere in Wells to meet up, unwind and drink something genuinely good, this is it.
Wines chosen by David, by the glass, the bottle, or straight from the shelf
David chooses every wine himself, from hand-picked European growers, some exclusive to the UK. Our own house wines, with labels hand-painted by David, are available by the glass or the bottle. And here's the part people love: any bottle on the shop shelves can be drunk in for a small corkage fee, so the whole wine shop effectively becomes your wine list. More than wine: charcuterie and small plates
Alongside the wine there's a menu of French-inspired small plates and boards, cooked by our chef Daniel using seasonal ingredients from local producers. A few favourites to pair with a glass:
- Charcuterie board - cured ham, pâté de campagne, bresaola and coppa, toasted sourdough
- Baked goats cheese - beetroot relish, honey, walnuts, dressed leaves
- Marinated olives, saucisson and cornichons, whitebait with tartare

Evenings, tastings and supper clubs
On selected Friday and Saturday evenings we stay open later for supper clubs, wine-tasting evenings and themed dinners: five-course menus with wine flights chosen by David, and one-off nights like our Basque and Spanish evenings. These are bookings only and fill quickly. Our Reserve Club membership (£100 a year) gives you 10% off everything, complimentary seasonal tastings and the newsletter a week early, so you can book before evenings open to everyone.
