Where to Eat Near Wells Cathedral
David SchroetterShare
If you're visiting Wells Cathedral and wondering where to eat nearby, you don't have to go far. The Pressoir sits in Heritage Courtyard, a quiet cobbled corner just off Sadler Street, a two-minute walk from the Cathedral Green and the Market Place, though it's easy to miss if you don't know it's there.
A hidden gem minutes from the Cathedral
We're a wine bar, wine shop and restaurant, festooned with greenery and run by wine enthusiast David Schroetter, who grew up among the vineyards of the Loire Valley. Regulars and visitors alike tend to describe us the same way, a little hidden gem, and after a morning at the Cathedral or the Bishop's Palace, it's an easy place to slow down.
Breakfast, lunch and very good coffee
We open at 9am for breakfast (served until 11.30am), then lunch from midday: French-inspired plates, boards and croques cooked by our chef Daniel using local, seasonal produce. If you're just after a coffee and a slice of homemade cake between sights, that's very welcome too. The full list is on our menu.
A glass of wine after your visit
Every wine is chosen by David himself, and any bottle on the shop shelves can be drunk in for a small corkage fee, so you can pick something interesting and enjoy it right here. There are charcuterie boards and small plates too. More about the wine bar.
Evenings and supper clubs
On selected Friday and Saturday evenings we stay open later for supper clubs and themed dinners: five courses with wine flights chosen by David. Dates go up on What's On, and they book up fast.
Planning your visit
You'll find us at 10 Heritage Courtyard, Wells, Somerset BA5 2RR. We're open Monday to Thursday 9am to 4.30pm and Friday to Saturday 9am to 7pm (closed Sundays). The Union Street and Sadler Street car parks are both a short walk away. Lunchtime tables are worth booking, just email David.
